Michael Hawes

Bass-Baritone singer and Trumpeter Michael Hawes hails from Chicago, Illinois. Michael is Music Director at St. Elizabeth of the Trinity church in Chicago, where he leads Music from the Piano and Organ as Cantor, Choir Director and Trumpeter. A member of Axiom Brass since 2018, he travels the world with the Quintet performing Chamber Art Music for Brass. Recent highlights include a CD of all music written for the group, in an album called First Impressions, and a trip to the Dominican Republic performing at the Conciertos de la Villa Festival. He sings with Grammy-nominated Clarion Choir, Crossing Choir, Seraphic Fire, Skylark, and The Saint Tikhon Choir. As a trumpet player, he has performed with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, Grand Rapids Symphony, Music of the Baroque Orchestra in Chicago, and the National Symphony of Taiwan. Recent performances have taken him to Taiwan, Russia, the Dominican Republic, France, England, Canada and all across the United States. A lover of art song, his most recent focus has been the songs of Franz Schubert, Florence Price and Randy Newman. He is absolutely thrilled for the release of Benedict Sheehan’s Liturgy. Singing the music of Benedict in concert and recording back in 2019 was a true honor. It is music of incredible depth and beauty. In his spare time you’ll likely find him chasing frisbees into Lake Michigan, as thrown by his wife Nini. You can learn and listen more at and
